The Czech-Italian section of our grammar school was founded in 1991. It is a selective study programme that naturally combines a high-quality Czech general education with Italian language and culture.
Admission and Entry Requirements
The programme is intended for pupils in the 7th grade of primary school (or the corresponding year of multi-year grammar schools).
Admission is based on the standardised entrance examinations (CERMAT).
No previous knowledge of Italian is required – students begin learning Italian from the very basics.
Structure and Course of Study
The programme lasts 6 years and consists of six classes (1.C to 6.C), with approximately 30 students in each class. It is divided into two consecutive stages:
1. Introductory Two-Year Cycle (1.C – 2.C)
Intensive Italian language instruction: students have 9–10 lessons per week, totalling more than 300 lessons per year.
By the end of the second year, students typically reach language level B1+.
During these first two years, all other subjects are taught in Czech.
2. Four-Year Bilingual Cycle (3.C – 6.C)
From the third year onwards, selected subjects are taught directly in Italian:
Italian Language and Literature
Mathematics
History
Chemistry
Physics
All other general education subjects continue to be taught in Czech.
International Projects and Exchange Programmes
During their studies, students take part in two exchange stays with partner schools in Italy, as well as a wide range of international cultural and educational projects. These activities provide them with valuable practical experience and help them develop strong intercultural skills.
Final Examination and Certification
The programme concludes with a specific school-leaving examination consisting of:
Written examinations: Czech language, Italian language and mathematics (in Italian).
Oral examinations: compulsory examinations in Czech and Italian, plus two elective subjects, at least one of which must be chosen from the subjects taught in Italian – chemistry, physics or history.
Direct Access to Italian Universities
Successful graduates of the bilingual section receive a school-leaving certificate that opens the way to university study not only in the Czech Republic, but also abroad.
For admission to Italian universities:
graduates are exempt from the Italian language entrance examination;
they are admitted outside the quotas reserved for international students, with the same status as Italian applicants.
